Director – Marilyn Call L.C.S.W. (Biography – PDF): I began working for DSDHH in 1992 as the program director shortly before the Taylorsville center opened. My interests in working in this field stem from raising two daughters who were born profoundly deaf, and my experiences living with a “teen age” onset progressive hearing loss (now severe). I was appointed as the Division Director in Jan 2002. I love to advocate for improved services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals as well as all people with disabilities at Legislature. I also enjoy teaching others how to become advocates in the political process. I have great appreciation for the great Deaf/HH advocates who came before us. Mitch Moyers: I am the Outreach and Assistive Technology Program Director. I started working at the Sanderson Community Center in October of 2001. I really enjoy that variety of work that my job brings; everything from teaching to learning about accommodations, services, and technology. I enjoy presenting and teaching others about technology and emerging technology to provide a better life to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. As well as presenting solutions to work and home place barriers. I hope that Utah will be known as “The Place” for all Deaf and Hard of Hearing to live without barriers to communication.
Joene Nicolaisen: I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, MA, LPC. I have a Master’s degree and am licensed with the State of Utah to provide mental health counseling. I have worked at the Sanderson Center since October 2002. Before my job here, I worked with the Utah State Division of Services to People with Disabilities as a support coordinator. What I enjoy the most about my job is seeing people get the help they need to become more self sufficient. I also enjoy my co-workers!
Jenefer Reudter: Hello! I work at the Deaf Center as an Administrative Assistant. I help with the administrative responsibilities in keeping the Deaf Center a great place to be at whether it is for events, appointments or just to socialize with others. I enjoy reading and traveling in my spare time (whenever I can find it) and I am proud to be a wife and a mother!
Melanie Sperry: Hello! I work at the Deaf Center at the front desk. I enjoy seeing people come in. If they need help, I help them such as making copies, making calls or receiving calls from them and other things until their needs are satisified. I enjoy hobbies such as socializing and time with my family and friends.
Laurie Bishop: I was born in Alabama (Go BAMA Go) and now live in Utah. I started working at the Deaf Center in October. It has been an awesome experience. If anyone needs my help you can just come in my office and I will be happy to help you. ROLL TIDE!
Robin Traveller:I am the Hard of Hearing Specialist, I have a BA in Social Sciences. I have worked at the Center since 2005. Being an excellent listener, I love to help people dealing with their hearing loss. I’m always finding ways to help all of the people that I meet including assistive technology. I love to learn new technology and put them into good use. My real hobby at the Deaf Center is teaching quilting to Deaf quilters.
Mary Beth Baierl: I am the Community Education and Events Coordinator here at the deaf center. I organize a variety of workshops, community events, and classes at the center. That’s pretty exciting for me because I love planning. And I also get to meet new people constantly. I was born and raised in the land of cheese, brats, and beer – otherwise as known as Wisconsin. I graduated from Gallaudet University in 2004. I joined the Peace Corps and was stationed as a Deaf educator in Kenya for two years. There’s one thing you MUST know about me – I am truly a dog person. I love reading, sewing, socializing, and watching British shows like Doctor Who and Downton Abbey. And I really enjoy the challenges of long-distance running. I really look forward to working with people that care about the community and doing a good job.
Pamela Mower: I am the Employment Specialist here. I work with deaf and hard of hearing people who seek employment, provide resources needed for this along with educating employers on how to work with deaf and hard of hearing employees. I grew up here in Utah and love it here. I have a BA in Communication Studies and MA in Supervision and Administration from Gallaudet. I worked at Gallaudet as the Employer Specialist in the Career Center then worked at Sorenson Communications and now I work here! I look forward to meeting and getting to know you.
Annette Stewart: I began working at the Sanderson Center as a mental health counselor in 1999. In 2004, I became certified as a Benefit Planning Advocacy and Outreach planner for people who have SSI/SSDI. Annette provides individual, family, and couple counseling as well as Social Security benefit planning. I have my BS and MS in social work. I meet with clients Tuesday through Friday in the evenings. I enjoy seeing the Sanderson Center become alive with community events in the evenings.
Stephen Persinger: I am one of the case managers for the Sanderson Community Center. Case managers help with various everyday needs such as filling out forms, understanding letters, advocating for an interpreter, and obtaining services you need. I have a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). I enjoy camping, hiking, watching NFL football and snowboarding. My wife and I look forward to being a part of the Deaf community here in Utah!
Adam Shewell: I am the Building and Grounds supervisor responsible for grounds maintenance, interior maintenance and coordinating repairs with the Division of Facility Construction and Management.
Ron Nelson: I am the Electronics Specialist. As an Army brat, I was born in Arizona but have lived in Colorado, Hawaii, Japan, and moved to Logan, Utah at the age of 9. I graduated from Utah Technical College with a degree in Electronic Technology and recently completed a year-long course in Web Programming at SLCC. I love technology, computers, hot sauces and working on websites (not in that order)!
Julio Enriquez: I am the janitor responsible for cleanliness of the Sanderson Center. I help the building grounds supervisor with yard care and help staff organize and prepare for activities at the center. Prior to moving to Utah I worked at Disneyland in California where I learned how to keep a facility clean and nice for visitors like you.
Utah Interpreter Program (UIP):
Mitch Jensen: I am the Utah Interpreter Program Director, I oversee the State Certification, Certification testing and Training of Interpreters. I have been with USOR since 1988 and Division of Services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing since 1992, I have a Masters Degree in counseling. I love to be around the great staff that we have. I also love to be able to see my friends that come to the center. The most fun is being able to do practical jokes.
Paul Degraw: I started working at the Sanderson Center in 2009 under the Utah Interpreter Program. I grew up in the Deaf Community having Deaf parents so working here is like a home away from home. I have been interpreting professionally for more than a decade and thoroughly enjoy working within the Deaf community. I started formally interpreting on my mission for the LDS church. Since then I have interpreted in an array of situations: education, legislation, medical, legal, corporate meetings, concerts, theatre, everything from A – Z. Working at the Sanderson Center is a great experience. There are so many wonderful people here. I love the staff, the volunteers and the community members.
Clay Anderson: I have been an Interpreter\Mentor for the last 4 Years at the Sanderson Center. My favorite part of working at the Deaf center is being in a place that has a “FULL size” basketball court 15 paces away! Ohh, and the people are cool too!
Dawn Duran: I have been an interpreter since 1990 and worked in almost every setting I can think of. I have been working for UIP since April 2012 as an interpreter and mentor. Working here has been the best job of my life. My favorite thing about working here is our team. Everyone works together so well and strives to provide the best to the Deaf community we love.
Jennifer Harvey Storrer: I’ve worked at the Center on and off as a contract interpreter since the new building opened in 1992 and as a regular staff employee for the past 8 years. I currently work in a variety of roles for the Utah Interpreter Program but primarily as a mentor, interpreter, and in professional development. I am both state and nationally certified as a sign language interpreter and hold a B.S. from Idaho State University in Educational Interpreting. There are many wonderful things about working at the Center but by far my favorite thing is being around a community and culture I dearly love.
Trenton Marsh: I am the first full-time state employee working as a Certified Deaf Interpreter. I have developed training curriculum to train other to become a CDI at low cost. I educate the community about how to use CDI’s, needs of individuals who are deaf and serve as language mentor for the Interpreter Certification Advancement Network (ICAN) program.
Cindy Kummer: I came to the Sanderson Community Center in 2006. I love my job and happy to have met so many wonderful new friends at the Deaf Center! I am a Certification Specialist with the Utah Interpreter Program (UIP). I am also a Local Testing Administrator for the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID). My responsibilities include all aspects of conducting or assisting with interpreter testing and verification that standards/guidelines are met for proper certification. I also update our website, respond to community questions and provide professional support to the UIP department.
Vanessa Dalton: I am the Program Assistant. I started working at the Deaf Center in the Fall of 2012. I have a BA in Deaf Studies from Utah Valley University. I grew up in northern California but I have lived in Utah for 8 years now. I am excited to be here and meet everyone in the community.
Michelle Draper: I am a staff interpreter for the Utah State Office of Rehabilitation. In addition I also provide mentoring for the ICAN (Interpreter Certification Advancement Network) program and serve on the UIP testing committee. I have been interpreting since 2002. I hold both national and state interpreting certification and have a M.S. Degree in Interpreting Pedagogy from the University of North Florida. The best thing about my job is all the time I get to spend working with people in the community. I love it here!

Carole Peck: I have worked for 5 years as a Peer Support Enhancement Counselor for Utah Independence Living Center. I enjoy working with clients for cooking classes, games and other classes. I also enjoy socializing with Senior Citizens and working with the Circle of Friends.
