Gold Heart Volunteers
|Welcome to the Gold Hearts!
The Golden Hearts program was developed to give opportunities for individuals who know sign language the opportunity to give back to their community, or to volunteer services to improve knowledge of sign language and Deaf culture. “Knowing sign language” is evaluated at either having completed at least the first semester of the Sanderson Center’s Beginning ASL class or a conversational level of fluency. Volunteer opportunities are generally social activities designed for people of all ages, mostly occurring evenings and weekends on a monthly or quarterly basis. There is also the opportunity to greet consumers at the front desk evenings and weekends on a weekly basis.
To apply for the program, please fill out the on-line “Golden Hearts” application below as well as the “State of Utah Volunteer Application” form. Background criminal investigations (fingerprint background research) will need to be conducted on every volunteer who will have any unsupervised access to clients to ensure client safety.
There may be opportunities to volunteer at the Jean Massieu School or the Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind. Please visit http://www.usdb.org/deaf/JMS/default.aspx for more information. There may also be opportunities to assist individuals who may need support services and other assistance through the Sego Lily Center for Abused Deaf (www.slcad.org) or you could announce your availability through the Utah Association for the Deaf email group called UAD Announce (www.uad.org).
If you print the forms, please bring them back to the SCCDHH or mail to my attention:
